Mapping the Market: Earth Observation from a Global and Finnish Perspective
The satellite sector is growing fast, with the global space economy exceeding $600 billion. Understanding how the Earth Observation market is evolving is more relevant than ever as Finland’s New Space scene is making serious waves, ranking Finland among Europe's leading space investment hubs. In collaboration with the Finnish IT Law Association, we’re brought together leading voices from across the Earth Observation ecosystem to explore the market through two key lenses:
Keynote by: Louis Head (Senior Associate, DLA Piper UK)
Panel discussion featuring:
Jyri Engeström — General Partner, Lifeline Ventures
Jarkko Antila — CEO, KUVA SPACE
Lauri Ignatius — Associate General Counsel, ICEYE
Moderated by Jonathan Andersin and Alicia Hölttä.

I am deeply grateful to our Board and to the Finnish IT Law Association for their collaboration in once again delivering an outstanding event, especially Roosa Pitkänen.
The core idea behind the event was to highlight and explain the foundations of why Finnish Earth Observation companies have emerged in Finland and gained international recognition.
The panel discussion approached this theme from multiple perspectives: from the investor’s viewpoint, focusing on why these companies have attracted global attention; from the perspective of engineers and founders, emphasizing why the Finnish ecosystem is uniquely suited to fostering spin-offs from world-class research (with due credit to Aalto University and VTT); and finally from a legal standpoint, examining how the Finnish Act on Space Activities has supported and enabled the growth of these Earth Observation companies.
One of FSLA’s core missions is to bring international speakers into our ecosystem and foster meaningful connections. This time, FSLA had the honour of welcoming Louis Head, Senior Associate at DLA Piper UK, to Finland and to our event, where he shared insights on the regulatory landscape enabling Earth Observation activities.
We extend our sincere thanks to all speakers, panelists, and partners for their valuable contributions to the event’s success.
