Making Finnish Space Law History
FSLA hosted its very first event, bringing together an enthusiastic group of professionals and students, lawyers, researchers, engineers, and philosophers. The goal was to discuss how Finland can strengthen its position on the global space sector map. 🇫🇮✨
Throughout the evening, we heard inspiring talks on the strengths of Finland’s satellite technology and cosmological research. A panel discussion with industry representatives sparked ideas and lively debate.
Finland’s success in space is built on an agile ecosystem, a strong research foundation, governance models that support industry, and close collaboration between academia and industry. FSLA aims to reinforce this foundation by promoting interdisciplinary dialogue and advancing space law expertise in Finland.
A warm thank you to our speakers Jaan Praks, Emilia Kilpua, Ville Meskus, Kaisa Ahonen, Tiina Nurmi, our host Heikki Lindroos, Byro Ltd, and all participants who made this event a success!
I am deeply grateful to our board, which managed to organize everything in less than two months, especially considering that our association is only three months old! A big thank you also to Byro Legal, Heikki, and all our esteemed speakers.
Why is Finland succeeding in the space sector? We have a long and strong research tradition, and the foundation for industrial growth is already in place. Visionary pioneers, governance models that support industry, and a thriving startup ecosystem provide a solid base for Finnish expertise.
What excited me most was the diversity of the event. We had researchers, lawyers, engineers, philosophers, and students all in one place. This is exactly why FSLA was founded: to promote interdisciplinary dialogue and knowledge sharing, with space law as a guiding force.
In my view, the greatest challenge is leadership. Finnish companies are agile and offer world-class expertise, but collaboration between academia and industry must continue. We need the courage to take Finnish know-how to the global stage and that is precisely where FSLA wants to focus.
Together, we can bring Finnish expertise to the world.
